This page tells you what happens to your data when you visit explainroo.com. It is about the website only. The explainroo software runs on your own computer and sends nothing to this site.

Who is responsible?

I, Vincent Schmalbach, run this website. My address and contact details are in the imprint.

What happens when you open a page?

Your browser sends a request. It contains your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and details like your browser and operating system. Two services handle that request so the page can reach you:

  • Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) sits in front of the site. It delivers the pages and videos, keeps copies of them near you, and blocks attacks. For that it processes your IP address and the request data. Cloudflare takes part in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Hetzner (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany) runs the server the pages come from. It stands in Falkenstein, Germany. The server keeps no log of page visits for this site. It only keeps a log of technical errors.

The legal basis for this is my legitimate interest in delivering the site quickly and safely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

What about cookies and analytics?

The site sets no cookies of its own. It counts visits with Plausible Analytics (Plausible Insights OÜ, Estonia, EU). Plausible uses no cookies and stores no personal data. It uses your IP address and browser only to count a visit, as a code that changes every day and can't be traced back to you. The Plausible script loads from this site, and this site passes each visit on to Plausible. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing which pages people read (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The fonts and videos come from this site itself. When Cloudflare sees unusual traffic, it can set a short-lived cookie to tell people from bots. Links to other sites, like GitHub, only do something when you click them. Those sites have their own privacy rules.

What are your rights?

You can ask what data about you is stored. You can have it corrected or deleted, or have its use restricted. You can object to its use. You can ask for a copy in a common format. For all of this, contact me through the details in the imprint. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
