How a sales pipeline works in a CRM

How a deal moves through the stages of a sales pipeline in a CRM, and how one board of all your deals tells you who to call next.

Transcript

When you run a small business, people ask about your work by email, phone and text. It gets hard to remember who is waiting for an answer.

A CRM is a program that keeps your customers and sales in one place. Many of them show your sales as a pipeline, a board with a column for each stage.

A new lead is someone who has shown interest. Next comes a first call to learn what they need. Then you send an offer. In the end, the deal is won or lost.

Each deal is a card. For example, Anna runs a café and asks you for a price on new menus. Her card shows her name, what she wants and the next step.

When a deal moves forward, you drag its card to the next column. You book a call with Anna, so her card goes to First call. After the call you send an offer, and the card moves again.

If Anna says yes, the deal is won. If she says no, it moves to Lost.

With every deal on one board, you see where each one stands. Cards with a step due today show you who to call. Offers with no answer for a while need a call to follow up.

A sales pipeline shows every deal and its next step, so you know who to call next.
