Loom lets you record your screen, camera, or both, then share the video. Its free Starter plan suits occasional recordings. Paid plans raise limits or add editing, AI, and business controls. A “Creator” is a person who records videos; Loom charges for Creators, not for people who only watch.
Loom offers Starter, Business, Business + AI, and Enterprise plans, plus discounted Education pricing for eligible teachers and students. If you want narrated explainer videos or product demos made with a coding agent instead of recording your screen, explainroo is a free alternative.
Loom plan prices and inclusions
The published prices below are per Creator. With annual billing, Business and Business + AI have lower monthly rates, but you commit to each seat for the billing cycle.
| Plan | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | Up to 25 videos per person, recordings up to 5 minutes, video quality up to 720p, and unlimited screenshots. |
| Business | $18 per Creator/month, or about $15 with annual billing | Unlimited videos and recording time, quality up to 4K, basic waveform editing, the option to remove Loom branding, video upload and download, and engagement insights. |
| Business + AI | $24 per Creator/month, or about $20 with annual billing | Everything in Business, plus AI features such as automatic titles, summaries, chapters, and task suggestions; video transcripts; filler-word and silence removal; transcript-based editing; and meeting notes and recaps. |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Everything in Business + AI, plus features such as single sign-on (SSO), automated user provisioning through SCIM, Salesforce integration, a 99.95% uptime service-level agreement, downloadable user insights, custom data-retention policies, and dedicated support. |
The Loom pricing page and Atlassian’s Loom pricing page list plan features. The paid-plan prices and annual rates are also reported in Loom pricing comparisons. Annual billing saves up to 17% compared with monthly billing. Enterprise has no published list price, so you need a quote.
Starter’s member limit is not consistent across public pricing pages: some list up to 50 members, while Atlassian’s page says up to 10 users can be added to a Starter team workspace. Check the limit shown in your account before inviting a larger group. Eligible teachers and students can also check Loom’s Education plan for discounted pricing.
How Loom’s limits affect the bill
The main decision is whether the Starter caps fit your recordings. A 5-minute limit and 25-video allowance can be enough for occasional updates. Regular product walkthroughs, longer explanations, or repeated recordings are more likely to require Business.
Loom bills for each Creator seat, so a company’s cost rises with the number of people who record. Viewers do not require paid Creator seats. Before choosing annual billing, estimate how many people will record during the subscription period. According to Loom pricing analysis, Loom does not refund unused fees when you remove a Creator seat mid-cycle.
Choose Business + AI if creators will use its transcription and editing features. The base Business plan does not include those AI tools. Consider Enterprise if your organization needs centralized user provisioning, SSO, custom data retention, or the listed service commitment.
Atlassian lists a 14-day Business + AI trial on its pricing page. Check the checkout screen for the price, billing term, and Creator count before starting a paid subscription.
When explainroo is a better fit
Loom is designed around recording and sharing videos. explainroo takes a different approach: it is a free, open-source kit under the MIT license that lets a coding agent create narrated explainer videos and product demos on your computer. It works with Claude Code, Codex, Pi, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, and other agents that can run shell commands; it works best with Claude Code.
To try it, give your coding agent this prompt, replacing the bracketed topic:
Make me a short explainer video about [your topic]. Use explainroo for it: clone, read its AGENTS.md and follow the steps.
The agent writes a script and scene instructions, then explainroo creates and checks the video and saves an MP4 file. Its voice model reads English narration aloud, and the video can use charts, code, or your screenshots. You pay for optional AI illustrations through OpenRouter. explainroo otherwise costs nothing per video, but the coding agent is a separate service with its own pricing. See example videos or the setup documentation.
Choose explainroo when you want a narrated explainer or a demo built from a product’s code or website, and you are comfortable directing a coding agent. Choose Loom when you want to record your own screen or camera directly. explainroo does not edit existing camera footage, create talking avatars, or provide a drag-and-drop editor. You can try explainroo at explainroo.com or explore its open-source code.
