Pictory turns scripts, web pages, or presentations into videos. Its tools add captions and voiceovers, along with stock footage. With annual billing, its paid plans start at $25 per month. Check current pricing for month-to-month rates. Pictory also offers a 14-day trial, but no permanent free plan.
Choose a plan based on how many video minutes you need and which AI features you use. For a free alternative to make narrated explainer videos and product demos, explainroo is an open-source kit that uses an AI coding agent to create videos on your computer.
Pictory plan prices
Pictory lists three paid plans. Annual prices below show the monthly equivalent; monthly prices are billed month to month. Annual video-minute totals use the listed monthly allowances.
| Plan | Annual billing | Monthly billing | Video minutes with annual billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $25/month | Check current pricing | 200/month, or 2,400/year |
| Professional | $35/month | $59/month | 600/month, or 7,200/year |
| Team | $119/month | $199/month | 1,800/month, or 21,600/year |
The Pictory pricing page lists the plans and their allowances. If you make videos in bursts, check whether unused monthly minutes carry over before subscribing. The annual totals do not confirm that they do.
Every paid plan removes Pictory’s watermark. Trial exports include Pictory branding, according to Pictory plan details. Compare each plan’s video-minute and AI-credit limits with your expected monthly output, as well as its price.
What the plans include
Pictory offers several ways to make videos: script-to-video, URL-to-video, and PowerPoint presentation-to-video. You can edit a video’s transcript. Pictory also adds automatic captions and provides a stock media library. The script-to-video feature turns written content into a video with visuals and narration.
Pictory also lists AI voiceovers, brand kits to keep visuals consistent, and avatars on eligible plans. Access varies by plan, so confirm which tools are included at checkout. Starter may suit you for turning a blog post or script into a narrated video; Professional or Team may suit you if you plan to make more videos.
The plans set separate limits for video minutes and AI credits. Reported annual allowances are 1,200 AI credits for Starter and 12,000 for Professional. Team includes more credits, but reports do not consistently state the amount. Plan comparisons also say credits roll over between billing cycles and remain available while the subscription is active. Check the current account terms before relying on a rollover.
Trial limits and possible extra costs
According to Pictory’s trial and pricing details, the 14-day trial includes 15 video minutes, a five-minute maximum video length, and watermarked 720p exports. You can use it to test a short video, but it does not offer a permanent free way to export videos without branding.
In the app, you can buy extra video minutes and AI credits, and pay for voiceover overages. The pricing information summarized by CheckThat’s Pictory pricing review does not include published prices for these extras. The review lists 1,000 AI credits as a standalone purchase for $480 per year. If you need extra credits, check the in-app price before choosing a plan.
Pictory’s terms state that subscription fees are nonrefundable. According to reported plan information, canceling deletes projects from the platform. Before canceling, export finished videos and save any project files you need. Avoid annual billing while you are testing the service or if you are unsure you will use it for the full term.
When explainroo is a better fit
explainroo is free, open-source software under the MIT license. A coding agent, such as Claude Code, Codex, Pi, OpenCode, or Gemini CLI, writes a script and scene instructions. explainroo then renders a narrated explainer video or product demo on your computer.
To try it, give a compatible coding agent this prompt, replacing the bracketed topic:
Make me a short explainer video about [your topic]. Use explainroo for it: clone the explainroo repository, read its AGENTS.md and follow the steps.
The agent sets up explainroo, creates and checks the video, then provides an MP4 file. Narration uses the open Kokoro voice model, which offers natural American and British English voices. Narration is available only in English. explainroo can also make product demos by rebuilding an app’s screens from its code or website and showing a pointer click through them.
Choose explainroo for a free, customizable narrated explainer or product demo if you are comfortable asking a coding agent to make changes. Node.js and ffmpeg are required, as is Chrome or Chromium. It has no drag-and-drop editor. The coding agent is a separate service with its own pricing. Optional AI illustrations also cost extra. The examples and explainroo documentation show how the kit works. Pictory is a better fit if you want a hosted video editor to repurpose written content, edit by transcript, and use stock media and voiceover tools.
