explainroo 0.2: more languages, your own voice and video clips

Version 0.2.0

explainroo 0.2 is the biggest update since the first release.

Voices and languages

  • Narration in Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and Hindi, as well as English. See other languages.
  • An ElevenLabs voice, including your cloned voice, or your own recording. A recording can be one take or one file per scene. See voices.

What a scene can show

  • Video clips and screen recordings with s.clip, frame by frame. See video clips.
  • Math formulas with s.math. In the hand-drawn looks they are written on. See math formulas.
  • Code that changes from one version to the next, with the parts that stay sliding into place. See code steps.

Publishing

  • Every render also writes SRT and VTT subtitles, a cover image, and YouTube chapters when scenes name them.
  • GIFs for a README, and transparent WebM or MOV files for video editors.
  • One project in several sizes, for example for YouTube and TikTok.
  • A web player that draws the video live, sharp at any size, for docs sites. See publishing a video.

Product demos and looks

  • explainroo capture saves a live site’s screenshots, colors, fonts, logo and wording before you make a demo. See product demos.
  • A project can bring its own look in a small JSON file. See custom looks.
  • check suggests a readable color when text has too little contrast.

Three example videos came with it: callbacks to async/await, why a circle’s area is πr² and ¿por qué el cielo es azul?, narrated in Spanish.
